چکیده

We present ISP, a novel architecture for Internet Service Providers suitable for installation in airports, hotels, conference centers, cafés, and office or apartment buildings. Users access a ISP via a low-cost, high-bandwidth LAN, e.g. Ethernet or WaveLAN. A router connects the ISP’s LAN to a shared high-bandwidth access link (e.g., DSL or cable) to a conventional ISP. For this service, a ISP charges its clients. The architecture supports a variety of payment methods, both offline (e.g., cash, credit card, or billing to a hotel room account) and online (e.g., eCash, SET, IBM Micro Payments, or Millicent). ISPs use IPSec’s IKE protocol for securely exchanging authentication keys with paying users. Paying users use IPSec’s AH protocol in tunnel mode to authenticate each packet they send. Therefore, ISPs can easily detect and drop packets of nonpaying users. A ISP must present to users a certificate signed by a recognized authority, but a user may simply present a self-signed certificate, as long as the user pays for service. Regardless of how online payment is implemented, it runs on the user’s authenticated tunnel, and therefore can be securely bound to it. The ISP protocol allows users to monitor and control usage and supports recovery in case of a ISP or user computer crash.

Providing Efficient Secured Mobile IPv6 by SAG and Robust Header Compression

By providing ubiquitous Internet connectivity, wireless networks offer more convenient ways for users to surf the Internet. However, wireless networks encounter more technological challenges than wired networks, such as bandwidth, security problems, and handoff latency. Thus, this paper proposes new technologies to solve these problems. First, a Security Access Gateway (SAG) is proposed to solv...

A Bandwidth Guaranteed Polling MAC Protocol for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks

While the backbone networks have experienced substantial changes in the last decade; the access networks have not changed much. Recently, passive optical networks (PONs) seem to be ready for commercial deployment in access networks due to the maturity of a number of enabling technologies. long distance and reduced maintenance. Among PON technologies, the Ethernet PON (EPON) presently being stan...

Light-trains: An Integrated Optical-Wireless Solution for High Bandwidth Applications in High-Speed Metro-Trains

Moving trains represent a voluminous mass of users moving at high velocities that require bandwidth (on demand). Existing solutions typically based on wireless technology alone cannot scale efficiently to provide for bandwidth to such fastmoving voluminous users. A new approach is proposed that facilitates dynamic provisioning, good scalability and efficient use of available bandwidth. The prop...

Exploiting IEEE802.11n MIMO Technology for Cost-Effective Broadband Back-Hauling

The lack of affordable broadband Internet connectivity in rural areas, especially in emerging regions, is seen as a major barrier for access to knowledge, education or government services. In order to reduce the costs of back-hauling in rural regions, often without access to a stable power grid, alternative solutions are required to provide highbandwidth back-hauling at minimal power consumptio...
